Watertown man critically injured, taken to Syracuse hospital after being hit by car

Update Monday: The driver of the Chevy Camero was Hunter DuPree, police said. The pedestrian was Marty Parish, police said. There are no charges pending as of Monday afternoon.
Watertown, N.Y. — A man was critically injured Saturday when he was hit by a car as he walked across the street in Watertown, police said.
Around 5:47 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of State Street for a traffic accident involving a car and a pedestrian, according to a news release Sunday from the Watertown Police Department.
A 47-year-old man was crossing the street from the north side of State Street when he was struck by a Chevy Camaro heading east, police said. The man was not using a crosswalk, they said.
The driver — a 26-year-old man from Carthage — was unable to stop in time, police said. The driver stayed on scene and called 911, they said.
The pedestrian was treated on scene and taken to Samaritan Medical Center, police said. The man was later flown to Upstate University Hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition, they said.
Police said the pedestrian suffered fractures, lacerations, and internal injuries.
The cause of the accident appears to be a pedestrian crossing outside of the crosswalk on a dark road, they said.
There are currently no charges being filed, police said.
Police ask anyone with information about the accident to call the Watertown Police Department at (315)782-2233.
